This piece is based on a poem by Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, later adapted into a ballad by composer Stanisław Moniuszko. The melody, as I first came to know it, was taught to me by my mother—though it may differ significantly from the version performed here. All the invested meanings flow in and out of this instance of sound presence as memories grind against materiality of body and sound.
